Northeast Ohio has a rich boxing tradition filled with grit, talent, and relentless determination. Yet, despite its deep roots in the sport, the region’s fighters often are overlooked. Many local boxers, including super heavyweight contender Dajuan Calloway, strive to change that narrative.
Calloway has been boxing since 2012, but his passion for the sport was ignited long before he stepped into the ring. As a kid, he grew up watching legendary fighters like Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., mesmerized by their power, speed, and dominance. Those early influences fueled his dream of one day making a name for himself in the sport.
Over the years, Calloway has built an impressive professional record of 10-3. Known as “The Punisher,” he has showcased his knockout power in the ring, securing eight of his ten victories by stoppage. His raw strength, combined with technical skill and unwavering determination, has made him one of Cleveland’s most promising fighters.
Calloway trains at The Fight Factory of Cleveland under coach and promoter Bryan Gedeon. Under Gedeon’s mentorship, Calloway has continued to grow as a fighter, sharpening his skills and mindset.
But boxing is more than just a sport for Calloway—it has been a transformative force in his life. “It gave me a lot of confidence in myself…” he shared, reflecting on the impact the sport has had on his personal growth.
With his confidence and experience growing, Calloway has set his sights on an ultimate goal—becoming a champion. “Take it as far as I can. Right now I already captured the Pro rankings and I’m just tryin’ to become a champion basically,” he said.
Cleveland’s boxing scene may not always get the recognition it deserves, but it has hungry, talented fighters eager to prove themselves. Calloway sees the competitive fire that burns within the local boxing community. “A lotta tough fighters in it. Just competitive. Yeah very competitive,” he noted.

For Calloway, success in the ring isn’t just about natural ability—it’s about discipline, consistency, and perseverance. The journey of a boxer is filled with grueling training sessions, setbacks, and moments of doubt. But for Calloway, the key is pushing through it all. “Just keep puttin’ the work in, bein’ in the gym every day. Just never given’ up… Just keep pushin’ towards your goals and everything will be alright,” he emphasized.
Two Major Fights Ahead
Calloway is preparing for the biggest fights of his career, with two major bouts on the horizon.
First, on March 16th, he will fight at the iconic Madison Square Garden to take on undefeated Irish heavyweight Thomas Carty (10-0). The high-stakes showdown could propel Calloway’s career to new heights. Fighting at Madison Square Garden is a dream for any boxer, and Calloway recognizes the magnitude of this moment. “It’s bein’ a part of history first thing and also just like a big opportunity. It’s like the world’s gone be watching, so I’m gone be able to shock the world again and let ’em know that I’m here,” he said.
Following that, on April 25th, Calloway will face another undefeated opponent, Gurgen Hovhannisyan (7-0), at Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida. This fight will be another massive test for Calloway as he looks to solidify his place among the top heavyweights.
With a powerful punch, an iron will, and a hunger to prove himself on the grandest stages, Calloway is ready to seize every opportunity. As Northeast Ohio’s boxing scene continues to fight for recognition, he is determined to be one of the faces leading the charge.
Under the bright lights, the world will be watching.
